Blayne Bacon Show - excellent!! |
We are slowly cruising across the Arabian Sea towards Dubai and it has been raining on and off. We are now five hours behind Brisbane time, and the clocks go back another hour tonight. The shipboard display on our stateroom TV’s showing our position is not working now, so we could be anywhere!!???
It has been a very quiet day onboard - the corridors seem empty as many are suffering the effects of the rolling seas, eating at less reputable food outlets in Mumbai or the coughs and colds which have many passengers laid low in their cabins. We have caught up on a bit of ironing, watched a movie and read our books - nothing too stressful!!
We are feeling pleased that we had our highest score at trivia this afternoon - 17 out of 20. We were on tour in Mumbai yesterday, so missed the afternoon trivia comp, but our team mates Paula and Ray joined with another couple and WON the competition - well done guys!!!
Test yourself - these are the questions we couldn’t answer:
What do you call a group of beavers?
A colony
Who played Neo in the Matrix movie?
Keanu Reeves
What was Bruce Willis’s first film?
Blind date
We were a couple of hours late leaving Mumbai last night, and our captain announced this morning that we will now be arriving in Dubai at 10.00pm. on Thursday, rather than the previously advertised 2.00pm. Even with head winds, I not sure how the two hours late leaving Mumbai translated into eight hours late into Dubai.
We will now miss our tour of Abu Dhabi - we were going to go for a half day tour from Dubai on Thursday afternoon. Now we have full day tour in Dubai on Friday, rather than the original two days in Dubai. There were a number of passengers who were very hot under the collar about the changes when I walked past the purser’s desk - not much they can do to change the situation. Hopefully, the engine problem will be fixed soon.
A number of passengers are leaving in Dubai, and a new group are joining the cruise. There are about 900 of the total 1950 passengers who are doing the complete “Round the World” back to Sydney, and the rest are completing various segments.
Tonight is the last ‘posh frocks and smart duds’ night for this sector of the cruise. Almost everyone at our table has the lobster and prawn combo - the prawns were so large that I gave my lobster to Joanne - who managed to polish off three lobster tails - one for each course.
All the ladies at our table decided to wear our Indian purchases to dinner. I bought a set comprising a silk dress, pants and scarf for about $40US at the market stall on the pier - one size fits all - I think they were made for someone six foot tall. It was fun to wear tonight, and we had a group photo taken, calling ourselves the Indian wives club!! The men all wore their dinner suits, and looked very dashing.
After dinner, we enjoyed the show by Blayne Bacon - a multi talented American wo joined the ship in Mumbai - a variety act with music from Andrew Lloyd Webber on piano, some bluegrass on guitar, some comedy and vocals. So far, the entertainers we have seen have been varied and very good.
Just for laughs (from Blayne’s show)
A woman goes in a chemist and asks to speak to the pharmacist - he comes out from behind the dispensing counter and she says ‘ I need a can of arsenic - just enough to kill my husband.”
He says “ Lady I can’t help you to kill your husband - it would be breaking the law!!”
She pulls out a photo of her husband in bed with the pharmacist’s wife.
He takes one look at the photo and says , “Sorry madam, I didn’t realise you had a prescription!!” Boom Boom!!
