Today has been a balmy warm day as we headed further across the Timor Sea closer to the Indonesian Islands. At about 9.00pm. we turned right to transit between Bali and Lombok to enter the Bali Sea. We are loving the beautiful sunsets everyday.
The highlight today was group lunch organised by the Crazy Cruisers group - about 60 people turned up to be well looked after by Rui, the maitre’d and all the restaurant waiters. Everyone had a lovely long lunch, catching up with other group members whom we have only conversed with over the internet previously on the cruise critic roll call. The group has instigated Bloody Legends awards for people who do funny things during the cruise - and today Arnold was the lucky recipient of an award.
It is a long story but earlier this week, Arnold had a photo taken with four women draped over him, covered with lipstick kisses. I laughed so much that I was crying!! He was so embarrassed that he went bright red and his ears turned crimson and were burning hot.
At lunch today he was presented with the Princess Cassanova Bloody Legend Award much to his embarrassment - I think that Garry, who nominated him, had better watch his back.
Less than ten days into this cruise, we went down to the future cruises desk this morning and booked a 49 day cruise around South America from Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco on the Grand Princess in January 2013 - nothing like planning ahead. Watch out for the paperwork, Rechelle, it is apparently on its way to you.
Some people will go to all sorts of lengths to get out of posh frock night! We went for our afternoon walk and Arnold was pointing out the scenery on the Indonesian coastline that we were passing - when crash - suddenly he was on the deck - face down - he had tripped over a piece of the ship’s infrastructure and created quite a stir as other passengers on the deck rushed to help him up. He jarred his back - hope he hasn’t undone those twelve months of chiro treatment - and skinned his knees. He kept walking but when we returned to our stateroom, he started to feel the effects of his nose dive and as he was feeling worse for wear, we decided to forgo the ‘posh frock dinner’. After he had a hot shower and massage, we retreated to our stateroom for room service dinner and a quiet night of TV.
A bit of gossip....When reboarding the ship in Darwin, there seemed to be some confusion and inconsistencies among the ship’s staff in regard to bringing alcohol onto the ship - some were told by security as they disembarked that they could bring two bottles onto the ship, but had it confiscated on return - others were allowed through - we even heard of one couple who brought 12 casks on with them. When we arrived back after 5.30pm, we were allowed to bring our two bottles on, but warned that we wouldn’t allowed at any other ports. There were some very unhappy passengers until an announcement was made that all confiscated alcohol would be returned. Today we were approached by one very unhappy lady who says that she is taking up a petition to have the policy changed......other talk of boycotting the bars...... certainly is a talking point around the ship... further updates coming.... it could get interesting!!
Late this afternoon we received a letter from the captain to update the situation with the ‘technical difficulties’ with the diesel engine generator. He says that we are traveling at a reduced speed, but are still on track for Singapore on Sunday and that ‘changes to our itinerary will become necessary.’ He is working with head office to evaluate the itinerary impacts and will announce itinerary changes and compensation in the next few days .... the plot thickens since he has already mentioned ‘compensation’... sounds serious...... of course he thanks us for our understanding..... we couldn’t tell that there is a problem - everything on the ship has been happening as usual.... watch this space for an update when we know more. Everyone has a theory of course!!! our theory is that we may have to stay overnight in Singapore and miss Kuala Lumpur or Langkawi. Of course there are as many other theories as passengers - I saw two dear older ladies who were asking if they should take their life jackets to dinner?????? I was told that last year’s world cruise had to miss one of the Egyptian ports and each passenger received $400 compensation .... watch this space.
