This has been a very lucky week for me. with three great wins.
Firstly, as reported, our team finally won the trivia competition, and become the proud owners of Princess cruises logo water bottles.
My second win came in the casino. That evening, big Dennis asked me at dinner, what my lucky number was. I told him ’14’, my birthdate ... he said that he was going to put $10 on it at the casino ... I had $10 in my bag ... so I gave it to him and said to put my 10 on as well ... we didn’t win anything!!!
Next evening at dinner, we were talking about Dennis’ casino adventure, and I asked him what his lucky number was .. he said 25 .. so I said I would reciprocate and put $10 on it at the casino ... and he gave me another $10 to ‘invest’ ... I haven’t even been to the casino on the cruise, so wasn’t really sure how to play roulette. I sat at the table and put the money on the table ... the ‘wheel spinner’ said, ‘you can’t play at this table, it is for the competition, you need $20 to play in the comp ... no problem .. that is exactly how much I have ... so suddenly I was asked what colour I wanted .. lucky orange of course ... and i was playing in a casino competition!!
She slid a pile of 100 happy orange chips to me and told the players that we had 5 rounds to play and the winner would be the one with the most chips at the end go through to the final. I just piled all the chips around number 25 on every corner ... I looked at the table and no one else had used all their chips in the first round ... and they had spread their chips all over the board ... oh no ... had I made a bad move .... maybe they had a strategy that I didn’t understand ...no more bets were called .... and number 22 came up .. not our official number but just above 25 and so enough to give me a lot winning piles .... no one else won anything .. she scraped their chips off the board ... and gave me more than 350 chips .... time to be more strategic about the next round ... I didn’t want to give any back, so I bet the minimum allowed ... 20 chips ... and lost them. Next three rounds .... same result. However, I ended up with 295 chips and went to the top of the leader board.. the top six of the day on the board go through to final at 10.30 pm.
By the time 10.30pm. and the final came I around, I was in second place, behind our friend Garry. I used the same strategy in the final, using orange chips and stacking them all around number 25 .... number 28 came up in the first round ... just below 25 ... collected a pile of chips and then used the bare minimum for the next four rounds ..... in the final round most players went ‘all in’.. and I ended up with 465 chips ... and the prize of $500!!!
I collected my prize and Joanne, Garry, Ray, Paula, Arnold and myself took ourselves up to Dennis and Anthea’s stateroom to give him his share of the winnings...where we knocked and when they opened the door ... I threw the money in the air and Dennis ordered champagne from room service so we all celebrated with lots of laughter.
Ray commented that things happen in threes and told me that I should go to the jackpot bingo competition ... now once again I have never been before .... the rule is that on the final day of the cruise the jackpot must be won ... and I had heard that the regular players hate the players who only turn up for the final game, so I didn’t think I would go. Later, Joanne phoned me to see if I wanted to go with her and we bought our tickets .. we got there early so that she could tell me what to do ... I have not ever played bingo .... looking around I couldn’t believe how serious some people were .... all set up on their own tables with special coloured pens called dabbers ... in the first game the object was to cross off all the numbers on the top line .. Joanne quickly crossed off four numbers and she needed 73 to win. Finally I got four crossed off and said that I needed number 88 when the caller said ’88’. I heard another lady call out ‘bingo’ and Joanne said ‘ you’ve also got it’ so I raised my hand and ran down to the front .... I had pressed so hard on the last number with the dabber that the ink was flowing down the paper and it had to be blotted off to reveal the last number! We both had valid claims and so shared $315.
I was feeling a bit embarrassed about my winning streak, so Arnold and I decided that it would be nice to share our luck with our friends, so we have invited our dinner table group to the steak house for a celebratory dinner after our stop in Los Angeles. I think that I have had my fair share of luck, and so I don’t think that I will be visiting the casino or bingo again - don’t want to push my luck....
Cheers
