Today we are supposed to be touring around Rotterdam and The Hague from Amsterdam - we were really looking forward to this port because Arnold was born in Holland and left when he was 4 years old. We woke up to very strong winds - 40-50 knots and apparently we have to negotiate up a canal and narrow lock to get into Amsterdam - the Captain and the pilots agreed that it was too dangerous and so the transverse was aborted and we turned around and headed slowly for Bergen - two sea days now before we arrive in Norway. When I was at the pursers desk, there were a couple of passengers being very vocal about the changes - the poor crew at the pursers desk are not responsible for the weather - the Captain said that he won’t apologise for making decisions about the safety of the passengers, crew and the ship - and we are glad about that. There are a number of passengers who were supposed to board in Amsterdam, I believe that they are being transferred to Bergin and accommodated until they are able to join the ship - also 75 tonnes of food was due to be loaded today - now it is on trucks and also headed to Bergin.
We needed a quiet day, so we arranged a restful day, massages and pedicure in the morning, late lunch and a nana nap in the afternoon before dinner - then a great show with a comedian/singer who had won Opportunity Knocks in England.
A wonderful relaxed day.......
